Syd Lawrence The SWR Big Band looks back on six decades of music in shaping its history. She was already in the early 50s - at that time as "Erwin Lehn and his Südfunk dance orchestra" - in all areas of the Big Band music divisions. Following the retirement of longtime musical director, Prof. Erwin Lehn, the tapered face the orchestra's musical and human resources.

In 1998 the orchestra changed its name in the southwestern part of the fusion channel of "SDR Big Band" in "SWR BIG BAND" to.
