Bowls
Potters Leisure Resort hosts Midweek Bowling and Leisure Breaks from September to mid May, every year.
Each Midweek Break can be enjoyed by over 500 bowlers and is suitable for bowlers of all abilities. All Bowling Breaks start on a Monday and depart after Breakfast on a Friday unless otherwise stated. All our Bowls Breaks are designed for adults and feature entertainment from Potters Theatre Company.
Bowling Facilities
Our fantastic bowling facilities include: 14 Indoor Rinks and 7 Outdoor Rinks. But with so many other facilities and activities to enjoy, these breaks are perfect for the non-bowler and bowler alike.
Indoor Bowls
Potters Leisure Resorts Indoor Bowls rinks have been widely praised as some of the best in the world. This popular variation of the outdoor game is played on full sized artificial rinks complete with ditches. Every year in January, Potters hosts the World Indoor Bowls Championship, which sees some of the best players around the world competiting for the coveted title of World Singles Indoor Bowls Champion. You too can enjoy bowls all year round on any one of our fabulous 14 Indoor Rinks.
During our Indoor Bowling Breaks each player is guaranteed 4 games which are normally 12 ends. In addition to the guaranteed league games, the top 16 teams (sometimes the top 8) will progress to the knockout stages of the Tournament. If you do not qualify for the Tournament there are still opportunities for you to continue bowling.
Outdoor Bowls
We have 7 full sized outdoor bowls rinks, as well as 6 specially constructed permanent outdoor Short Mat Rinks that are made from state of the art grass. In the summer we run a Summer Bowls Festival that features both Flat Bowls and Crown Green Bowls Tournaments.
Short Mat Bowls
Short Mat Bowls is a popular indoor variant of the game played on Mats measuring 45ft x 6ft with white fenders at each end acting as a ditch. To compensate for the shorter distance a block is placed in the centre of the mat, making it impossible for straight fast bowls at the jack area. In Short Mat, a Bowl must pass over the "dead line" or it is removed from the party.
We have 20 Short Mat Rinks which we lay out in our famous Indoor Bowls Arena. In addition, we have 6 specially constructed permanent outdoor Short Mat Rinks that are made of state of the art artificial grass.
During the year Potters hosts a growing number of Short Mat Bowls Breaks. Some are open to any guest that informs us at the time of making their reservation that they wish to enter, others are run by Counties or National Associations for their members.
Carpet Bowls
Carpet Bowls is another indoor variant of the Bowls world, played on a smaller mat, at around 30ft x 6ft. Players must avoid an 18 inch circular block placed in the centre of the mat. There are no ditches and hence no ditch rules in carpet bowls. Bowls must be delivered to within 18 inches of the delivery area or else risk being removed from the party.
We understand that many Bowlers like to book their Breaks early to plan around their bowling schedules, so we recommend you reserve your preferred dates and accommodation early in order to secure your first choices.
We do not operate a dress code, but many of our bowlers prefer to play in greys / whites. To join in the indoor tournaments, you just inform us at the time of making your reservation and register on Monday by 5pm. You will require 2 woods (free loan woods and shoes are always available) as we play mixed ‘fours’ and most Guests play in greys. You do not have to be in a four as we create friendly teams so anyone can join in. You may wish to use 4 woods in roll ups, which are subject to rink availability.
