An evening with The Len Phillips Big Band is all about Swing! Formed over 25 years ago, The Len Phillips Big Band is one of the most accomplished Swing Bands in the UK. Sixteen of the country's finest musicians make up the ensemble under the expert leadership of Joe Pettitt; Saxes are led by Roy Willox (Ted Heath, Ronnie Hazlehurst); Trombones by Andy Flaxman (Syd Lawrence, The Ronnie Scotts Big Band); Trumpets include Trevor Barber (Shirley Bassey, The Rat Pack, John Dankworth) and on Piano; Don Hunt (Bruce Forsyth, Sammy Davis Jnr) to name just a few. The band is joined by two of the UK's most accomplished singers: Eleanor Keenan (Syd Lawrence, Andy Ross, Joe Loss) and Anton Browne (Gillespiana, Back to Basie).
Eleanor Keenan began her musical career in the 1970's, performing with all-girl vocal group, Three's a Crowd. She went on to perform as a supporting artiste for Tom Jones and Englebert Humperdinck, as well as performing as a backing vocalist for Gene Pitney, Tina Turner, Lulu, Mel Torme, Leo Sayer, Gloria Gaynor, Matt Munro and Jack Jones.
Anton Browne has an impressive resume: he has twice sold-out the great Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in the last two years, with his unique takes on songs by the likes of Lou Rawls and Joe Williams. The singer has also performed with BBC Radio 2 Orchestra, Back To Basie Big Band and Pete Long's Dizzy Gillespie Big Band, as well as Kenny Wheeler's Big Band.
"With a strict policy of playing only the finest Swing Music, the orchestra draws inspiration from a vast repertoire of the best big bands from both sides of the Atlantic - such as Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, The Rat Pack, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Ted Heath, Ken Mackintosh, Benny Goodman and many more. Their ever evolving programme always provides a sense of excitement, nostalgia and class."
Within our brochure you will find all the bands that will be appearing at Potters Leisure Resort during 2013.
