On the 8th January, The Soldiers will be performing songs from their new album, Message To You, live at Potters for one night only. Performing as part of Potters ‘Help For Heroes' Charity Night, The Soldiers, who have created history by being the first group of serving soldiers to hit the British pop charts, will be helping to raise money for real-life heroes.
Their two top 10 albums, Coming Home and Letters Home and most recent album, Message To You, exceeded sales of 800,000 and have helped raise over half a million pounds for army charities. And, they have performed for Her Majesty The Queen at the Royal Variety and at The Festival of Remembrance two years in a row.
But, despite The Soldiers success since their debut album in 2009, the 3 soldiers, comprising of Sergeant Major Gary Chilton , Staff Sergeant Richie Maddocks and Lance Corporal Ryan Idzi have to put their ‘day jobs' first.
"We are all still serving soldiers first and foremost. The Army has been brilliant in allowing us to record during our leave, but because we have different postings getting the three of us in to a studio at the same time has been a nightmare. We have to work hard in short bursts."
"We're looking for a wider following than people with friends or family in the armed forces," explains Staff Sergeant Richie Maddocks. "We want people in civvie street to get it as well. Obviously, our music is about soldier but there are wider themes in even that song that everyone can relate to and celebrates solidarity and family, as well as what the armed forces do every day for our country."
