If you haven’t already heard, next year we are celebrating our centenary and would love to hear from you!
As well as anyone who would just like to share fond memories from over the years, we would like to talk to people who stayed or worked at Potters in the early years, between the 1920s and 1960s, as well as hear from people with any historical information or photos of the Resort.
This is to support a special ‘history’ room, which is due to open at the end of the year, ready for the centenary in 2020. The room will contain an original full size timber hut, which will be kitted out with beds and furniture as it would have been back in 1920 when it first opened. The ‘history’ room will also feature a timeline of our key achievements, awards, major investments and milestones over the decades.
We are also aiming to raise £100,000 through the Potters Friends Foundation in 2020 to support worthwhile causes and projects in our local community.
We caught up with John Potter, who said: “I am incredibly proud that Potters Resort is reaching its 100th year and while Potters has modernised and expanded throughout the years, the friendly spirit that it was built on is still very much part of our secret to continued success today. Our friendly team, who are simply the best in the business and keep our guests returning year after year, are a major part of the reason guests return and some guests have visited us over 100 times! Of course, it’s all about making our guests happy and providing them with Quality Time Together, and that’s why we want to get past and present guests involved in our centenary plans. We’d love to hear from anyone who has stories and memories about Potters Resort, whether they came to stay with us, worked here or lived nearby to see how it has been transformed over the years. Thanks to everyone who has already got in touch to share stories and photos.”
Potters Resort was opened in 1920 by Herbert Potter after he won a cheque for £500 in a newspaper competition on 19th July 1913, worth around £22,000 today!
