Our very own bowls ambassador, Greg Harlow, took on Norwich City legend Darren Eadie in a charity bowls match and raised £1,000 for the local office of The Prince’s Trust to help disadvantaged young people in the East Anglia region.

The former Canaries star received a bowls masterclass from Harlow before testing his new skills against his tutor in a match played over three ends. Harlow took the first end before Eadie hit back to with the next two, claiming victory with his very last bowl.

The head-to-head at Potters Resort at Hopton-on-Sea was staged to launch the Just 2019 World Indoor Bowls Championships, whilst raising money for local office of The Prince’s Trust in Norwich for whom Eadie is an ambassador. Over £1,000 was donated to the charity by the Potters Friends Foundation, which was set up in memory of the late Brian Potter MBE to continue his philanthropic legacy.

The Prince's Trust is a charity founded in 1976 by HRH The Prince of Wales to help vulnerable young people get their lives on track. It supports 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed and those struggling at school and at risk of exclusion from society.

Darren Eadie, Prince’s Trust Ambassador and former Norwich City player said: “I want to thank Potters Resort for kindly supporting The Prince’s Trust, a charity that does so much brilliant work for young people in this region. I’ve been really looking forward to meeting the Potters Resort Bowls Ambassador Greg Harlow to learn a few new skills from him. Who better to learn from than the World No.1? It was a great opportunity to have the chance to roll a few ends on the famous blue carpet in the International Arena and raise funds and awareness for The Prince’s Trust.”

We caught up with Greg Harlow, who said: “It was great to see Darren getting involved in our sport. He’s a natural sportsman and I was impressed with his style on the rink.”

We also had a chat with John Potter, who said: “We’re delighted to support Darren in his role as ambassador for The Prince’s Trust which does so much locally to support young people. We hope that by working with Darren we might even attract further younger people to take an interest in the sport of bowls either by spectating or participating.”

2019 marks the 21st year that Potters Resort has hosted the Championships.
