After first round victories over Graham McKee and David Gourlay MBE defending champion Mark Dawes and Simon Skelton added 2nd round wins over number 16 seed Mike Stepney and 14th seed Jason Greenslade respectively and now progress to the quarter finals.
Dawes steadily built up a cushion in his first set against Stepney, getting home 9-6 and in the second looked home and hosed when he took a 6-3, six end lead.
The Elgin man though countered with a 3 and 1 to hold a narrow 7-6 advantage going into the last end and requiring two shots to force the match to a tie break.
Stepney held a set winning lie, but with his last bowl Dawes drew the shot to square the set at 7-7 and win the match by one and a half sets to a half.
In the opening match of Day 13 of the Just World Championships, Skelton, a former Top 16 Ranked player was making a welcome return to the blue portable rink after a three year absence thanks to taking out the qualifying place at Lincoln.
They traded blows in a dour and nervy battle and once again the match was won by one and a half sets to a half.
In set 1, the Welshman scored singles on the last two ends to share the set at 6-6 and in the set 2 Skelton scored a match winning double – drawing a shot and then adding a second on a measure to win 6-5 keep his quarter final interest alive.
