Scott Edwards caused the first major upset of the world indoor singles championship in the opening match of the 6th day of action at Potters.
45 year old Edwards, a professional poker player, is a member of the Adur indoor club, Peacehaven in Sussex. He currently sits 17th on the WBT Ranking List and was his 7th WBT tournament since his first attempt in the World singles in 2013 when he lost in the first round to Alex Marshall.
Despite winning six of the best of nine ends opening set against number 13 seed Mark Royal, he only managed to snatch the set 7-6.
43 year old Royal, who plays an important role within the Potters Bowls Equipment Road Show structure, won the set 10-4 with an end to spare.
In the best of three end tie break the players won one end each with Royal holding the vital match winner on the deciding end. However with the last bowl of the match Edwards conjured up the necessary shot to nudge the verdict 2-1.
